Chick Care & Feeding
What do I feed my chicks?
We recommend feeding chicks a medicated or non-medicated chick starter feed until they are ready to switch to layer feed.
Use chick starter feed
We recommend using either medicated or non-medicated chick starter feed while your chicks are growing.
Chick starter feed is made with the correct nutritional value for young chicks and is also the correct size for them to eat easily.
Chick Starter Feed
Chick starter feed should be used while chicks are young because it provides the nutrients they need as they grow.
Switch to Layer Feed
Once your birds begin laying eggs, you can switch them from chick starter feed to a layer feed.
Avoid Feeding Corn
Do not use corn as the main feed. Corn is like candy to chicks and has very little nutritional value compared to starter feed.
Medicated or non-medicated starter feed?
Either medicated or non-medicated chick starter feed can be used. The most important thing is that the feed is designed for chicks and provides the correct nutrition while they are growing.
Keep feed available at all times and make sure your feeder is designed for young chicks so they can see and reach the feed easily.
Do not rely on corn for nutrition
Corn may be something chicks enjoy eating, but it does not provide the balanced nutrition they need. Chick starter feed is the better choice for healthy growth.
For best results, keep chick starter feed and clean water available at all times while your chicks are growing.
